According to a report released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), although the South American country’s overall employment rate increased 1% month-on-month and by 2.8% year-on-year in September, the traditional sectors, including the leather industry, are still recording severe declines.

Whilst industries such as the food and drink sector recorded employment growth in excess of 9%, the footwear and leather industries saw the number of workers fall by a significant 9.3%.
