Lear unveils ‘high fashion’ leather collection

Inspired by the latest leather trends seen on the catwalks of the world, US-based supplier of automotive seating systems Lear Corporation unveiled its new Aventino Collection of automotive leather at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit last night. Designed and developed to reflect the latest apparel and leathergoods trends, the leathers on show were far from what one would usually expect to see in automotive upholstery.

Created by designers with Fine Arts and Fabric Design degrees at Lear’s Aventino design studio, the collection incorporates ten major trends which reflect the colour and trim styles seen in the fashion and home décor segments. These include a wide range of colours from subtle to bold, contrast stitching, matte finishes, metallic effects, weaving with tack stitching, exotic animal print textures, quilting, perforations, varied grain sizes, baseball stitching, embossing, and distressed or crinkled surfaces to create a vintage look.

"The Aventino Collection features the same unparalleled luxury, style and design cues that consumers have appreciated in fashion couture," said Ray Scott, president of the North American seating business. "With Aventino, fashion is no longer only about the clothes you wear; it's the handbag you carry, the case for your cell phone and now it is the seats in your car."

In addition to the Southfield design studio, Lear has also established a showroom at its trim facility in Victoria Plant in Mexico, which performs leather finishing, cutting, perforation, embossment and special logo work.
