KAT sale finally agreed
After much uncertainty over its future, the sale of Namibia’s Karas Abattoir and Tannery appears to be set to go ahead at last following the signing of an agreement by the company’s new board of directors.
According to local sources the new board — which was appointed last week following the sacking of the former directors over what was seen to be an unacceptable delay in cementing the sale — is thought to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the sale of the business to Brukarros Meat.
The former directors appealed for the sale to be delayed until February without success.
As reported by www.leatherbiz.com at the end of September, workers at the tannery demanded the dismissal of the firm’s management over failing to tell employees of the company’s intended sale, which raised concerns about job losses.
