JVs set to boost Kashmir leather industry
Officials from the Indian Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and the Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir and Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting this week to discuss boosting the leather industry in the border state through the possible establishment of joint ventures and incentives designed to increase production.
With an abundant supply of raw material (approximately 10 million hides per year) and the construction of a new Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) underway, it is believed that the industry could thrive through partnerships between Indian leather manufacturers and local companies, resulting in increased added value and employment opportunities in the region.
