11/10/2007

Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has posted sales of $21.5 million for the five weeks ended October 6 compared with $23.6 million for the five weeks ended September 30, 2006. Year-to-date sales decreased 14.9% to $139 million compared with $163.3 million for the same period last year.

Comparable store sales decreased 13% for the five-week period; however; this decrease is lower than the 15.5% decrease in comparable store sales in the prior-year period. However, year-to-date comparable store sales fell 14.8% compared with 14% for the same period last year.

Chief executive officer, Michael Searles, said: "Accessories penetration to total sales grew significantly year-over-year but was not enough to overcome the softness we experienced in our outerwear categories as a result of abnormally warm weather in most of our trading areas.”

“Where weather patterns were cooler than normal, we experienced positive results, with our new designer branded offerings in outerwear performing best," he said.
