Leaps and bounds for Vietnamese leather exports

Vietnamese exports for the January to August period rose considerably to $31.2 billion from $26 billion during the same period in 2006 according to the country’s statistics office.

Leather footwear exports increased 13.4% from $2.4 billion in the eight-month period last year to $2.7 billion in 2007.

Meanwhile, exports of leather goods, such as handbags, wallets and travel goods, increased by 26.1% from $337 million last year to $425 million for the first eight months of 2007. Figures for August also show significant growth, with leather goods exports up from $45 million in August 2006 to $60 million this year.
