Kenyan tanneries on the up

08/10/2007

According to Kenya’s Trade minister, Mukhisa Kituyi, the government's decision to increase tax on raw leather for export has helped to improve tanneries’ performance. He said that tanneries now had access to sufficient levels of raw material and that investment in the leather sector was also higher.

The tax increase was introduced following suggestions from the National Conference on Value Addition for the textile and cotton industries, which looked at ways of supporting farmers and small businesses.
