05/10/2007

Government industry promotion agency Sebrae and the local authorities have combined to present a three-day seminar on the leather supply chain in Mato Grosso.

The state of Mato Grosso has Brazil’s second-largest cattle population, with more than 22 million head, butat the momenthas only nine tanneries, which produce a combined total of 11.9 million wet blue hides per year and 1.5 million crust.

The organisers hope the seminar will encourage more business leaders in the state to consider moving into the leather sector.
