Leather is second highest performing US industry

According to the latest ISM Report on Business, activity in the manufacturing sector expanded in September for the eighth consecutive month and the overall economy grew for the 71st consecutive month.

The three top performing sectors overall were, in order: petroleum and coal products; apparel, leather and allied products; and electrical equipment, appliances and components.

Apparel, leather and allied products topped the New Orders Index in September, which increased 1.9% to 53.4% overall for the month compared with 55.3% reported in August.

The group also came second in terms of growth in the production and employment indices, according to the report.
