KAT tannery workers up in arms

28/09/2007

According to reports, staff at the Karas Abattoir and Tannery (KAT) in Namibia have demanded that the company's management be removed from positions of authority for failing to tell employees of the company’s intended sale to a new owner, which has raised concerns about job losses.

Employees have also complained of unfair working conditions and are seeking a 12% pay increase.

However, management has assured staff that, although a buyer has been found for the company, no jobs are on the line and pay negotiations are still underway. Allegations of discrimination have also been denied.
