UK leather goods growth slows in September

According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), leather goods and footwear sales were higher, year-on-year, in September than in the same month last year. However, it also indicated that growth for these sectors was slowing in pace.

Overall, the CBI found that UK sales were at their lowest levels since November 2006, although sales continue to grow despite recent shake-ups within the financial sector.

Chairman of the CBI's Distributive Trades Panel and executive director at Asda, John Longworth, believes consumer confidence could be dampened even further as economic uncertainty into 2008 emerges.
