According to a recent National Equestrian Survey (NES) compiled by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA), the UK equestrian market, excluding racing, is worth approximately £4.2 billion a year.

The survey shows that the number of horses in the UK, including those kept by private owners and in professional establishments, has reached 1.35 million. Approximately 720,000 people either own or care for these horses, accounting for 1.2% of the population. Around 2.1 million people ride at least once a month, with a further 2.2 million having done so in the last year.

Costs incurred by equestrian consumers include £126.4 million in saddlery purchases and repairs, £242.5 million for clothing and footwear and £32.5 million for riding hats and body protectors, among other things.
