China is Uruguay’s main sheep product import destination
According to the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat, the country’s sheep product exports rose 11.4% to $207 million during the eight-month sheep-shearing season, which began at the end of 2006.
Wool and woollen goods exports, which grew 12.2% and generated revenue of $154.2 million, accounted for 74.5% of total sheep product exports. Next in line was lamb meat, with exports up 19.9% to $35.3 million.
For the period between July 2006 and June 2007, wool and wool product exports rose 8.6% to $213.5 million compared with the prior-year period. Sheepskin exports increased by 29.7% to $1.9 million during the same period.
The Customs Department has revealed that
