Indian government sets up new ‘leather information desk’ in Brazil

20/09/2007

The Indian government has established a new ‘leather information desk’ in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, to promote joint ventures between Indian and Brazilian leather and footwear companies.

According to the Understand from Council for Leather Exports (CLE), a number of Brazilian footwear component companies has expressed a desire to invest in the Indian footwear retail sector, which many have already successfully done. Many Brazilian technicians have also offered their services to Indian footwear companies.

A team including CLE chairman, Mukhtarual Amin, and executive director, Dr K Elangovan, visited Brazilian footwear clusters earlier this year in order to gain a wider knowledge of the Brazilian leather industry.

A similar information desk has already been set up in Italy.
