Wet blue will feature in meat discussion

A meeting in Brasília on Monday could pave the way for meat exports from Brazil to China to start up again.

The delegations from the two countries will also discuss a new certification scheme for sales to China of wet blue hides.

The meat trade—for pork, beef and poultry—between China and Brazil came to a halt in 2005 after outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease in Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná states. Russia, which also stopped imports at that time, has already agreed to start buying Brazilian meat again.

The Brazilian and Chinese governments set up a joint discussion committee in March 2006 to maintain a high-level dialogue on subjects such as animal health.
