No increase for wet-blue export duty
07/09/2007
Leaders from across the Brazilian leather productive chain have argued successfully against an increase in wet-blue leather export duty.
Rrepresentatives of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the Brazilian Association of Footwear Manufacturers (Abicalçados) and the Leather Industry Parliamentary Front gathered for an extraordinary meeting, held at the Commission for Economic Development in Brasilia, on September 4.
The meeting analysed the impact of wet-blue leather export duty on the productive chain. It was established that the average price of wet-blue leather has already reached international levels, which does not justify an increase of the duty in question at the moment, they said.
Therefore, the duty remains at the current 9% until further notice.
