Untanned hides at heart of anthrax case

The FBI is investigating a case of cutaneous anthrax poisoning in Danbury, Connecticut.

The local authorities have said the incident involves two people, at least one of whom had been working with untanned animal hides for use on an African drum. The hides themselves may have come from Africa.

The condition is much less serious than inhalation anthrax. It is not contagious and can be treated with antibiotics.
