Meat packer buys tannery

One of Brazil's most important meat producers, Frigorífico Minerva, has bought a tannery in the city of Fernandópolis in its home state of São Paolo and will move into leather production immediately.

It will invest around $500,000
in the facility, which it is taking over as a going concern, with the client list and the workforce of 160 transferring to the new owners.

The new investment will, Minerva hopes, allow it to increase capacity, building up to a maximum output of 3,600 hides a day, 80% of them semi-finished and 20% finished.
