Austrian Lederhosen: €85,000 per pair

A traditional Alpine clothing retailer in Austria, Christian Wohlmuther, has sold a pair of deerskin Lederhosen for €85,000. Reuters has confirmed this as the highest price ever paid for a pair of the traditional trousers that are still popular in mountain regions of Europe.

The buyer, who commissioned the product, is believed to be a wealthy German living in Dubai. The trousers are of leather made from the hide of a wild red deer and have 166 diamonds set in gold as decoration.

The hides of elk, goat and pigs are the traditional source of leather for Lederhosen, a pair of which can often last a lifetime owing to the quality of the raw material and craftsmanship with which they are made.
