China protests against Argentina's actions

Moves by the Argentinian government to restrict imports of leather, footwear and other products it sees as important for creating and maintaining employment and wealth—as reported on leatherbiz.com on August 17—have brought an official protest from China.

A spokesperson for China's ministry of commerce said today:
"It is neither reasonable nor acceptable for the Argentine side to make such moves without notifying China in advance."

The ministry accused Argentina of going against the rules of the World Trade Organisation by taking unilateral action that had "harmed the rights and interests of China".
