Leather solutions firm opens China factory

A UK company specialising in chemical products for the protection of leather and leather products has expanded to China.
Leicester-based Corium Solutions has opened a factor in Dongguan, Guangdong province, to increase its output of chemicals for finishing, treating and protecting leather.
China's prominence as a centre for the manufacture of leather and leather goods made the move inevitable, the company said.
On announcing the new facility, managing director, Byron Dixon, said: "When sofas, shoes and other leather items are shipped from China they are often treated ineffectively, or not at all. This makes the products prone to mould [during transportation], and as many as 10% of items are scrapped on arrival."
He expressed confidence that his company's presence in Guangdong could help the industry address the problem of product wastage.
