A leather toe has been found attached to the foot of an Egyptian mummy and researchers at the University of Manchester, UK, believe it is around 3,000 years old. They also believe it could be the world’s oldest articulated prosthesis.

However, there are debates over the functionality of the toe as it may have simply been used as a cosmetic attachment for aesthetic purposes. Experts from Manchester's KNH Centre for Biomedical Egyptology are trying to assess the true function of the ancient leather article.
