Pakistan's leather footwear exports fall in June

Finished leather exports totalled $26 million in June compared with $24 million in May, leather goods totalled $46.6 million compared with $38.238 million and footwear totalled $8.8 million compared with $10.7 million. This shows that finished leather and leather goods exports increased by 8.5% and 22%, respectively, while footwear exports fell 17.6% compared with the previous month.
For the full fiscal year—July 2006 to June 2007—total leather exports fell 17% to $962.9 million from $1.2 billion in the prior year. During the year, finished leather exports grew 3% and 3.6% in terms of quantity and value, respectively, rising to 17.9 million m² of leather worth $302.8 million from 17.4 million m² worth $292.4 million in the July 2005 to June 2006 period. Leather goods exports totalled $546.1 million compared with $722.6 million in the previous year, a decline of 24.4%. This includes leather garments worth $387.8 million, leather gloves worth $125.6 million and other leather goods worth $32.7 million
15.3 million pairs of footwear worth $114.081 million were exported—including leather footwear worth $95.6 million, canvas footwear worth $2 million and other footwear worth $16.4 million—compared with 22.2 million pairs worth $145.2 million in the previous year, a decline of 21.4%.
