New research published by consumer, product and media intelligence company Mintel shows that the US handbag market booming, with sales having increased 22% since 2004, and is set to become a $6.4 billion market this year.

According to the report, although brand awareness and luxury upscale purchases have clearly played a role in the market, it is the trend towards ‘aspirational’ shopping that is really driving growth as handbags provide a relatively affordable way to obtain a piece of the luxury lifestyle enjoyed by celebrities.
