New ostrich facility opened

29/06/2007

A new ostrich slaughterhouse and meatpacking plant has opened in the western Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which currently owns a flock of 9,000 birds.
Brazil currently produces approximately 40 tons of ostrich meat a year and this is expected to increase in the future as the industry expands. Some 14,300 birds were slaughtered in 2006.

Ostrich breeder and owner of the new facilities is Manoel Assunção.
