Former president of Braude Brothers passes away

Former president of US producer of the shoe, handbag and belt leathers Braude Brothers Tanning Corp., Stephen Emanuel Braude, has passed away.

Having joined his father at Ephraim Braude Leather after university he became president of the company in 1952. In 1954 he moved the business to the Boston area as Braude Brothers Tanning Corp. which catered for the shoe, handbag and belt industries in the USA and Europe, where the company was best known for its tortoiseshell patent leather that was extremely popular in the 1960s.

After 30 years with the company, he retired and served as a trustee for the Bank of Boston Celebrity Series, the World Boston, the World Affairs Council and as a member of the Deans Council of the Kennedy School of Government. He was also a former trustee and donor of Emerson Hospital in Concord and a benefactor of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
