Ten leather parks planned in India

Shashi Bhushan Shukla, secretary of India’s Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), has announced that the government will provide Rs4 billion ($100 million) towards the establishment of ten leather parks to be built during the 11th  Five Year Plan. This sum will cover 60% of the set-up costs for the parks, with the remaining 40% to come from the private sector.
Two leather parks will be built in Tamil Nadu in the south of the country, a footwear and a leather goods park will be set up in Calcutta, and footwear parks will also be established in Kanpur and Agra. The location of the other four parks is still to be decided.

The government  also plans to build a new design and retail training centre.
