A call for papers has been made for the XVII Latin American Federation of Leather Technicians and Chemists (FLAQTIC) Congress, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 8-10, and organised by the Brazilian Association of Leather Technicians and Chemists (ABTIQ).

The congress is aimed at people working in and/or interested in all aspects of leather processing science and technology, from leather chemists, technologists and technicians, to other professionals directly involved in the leather sector, as well as consultants, government bodies related to the sector, and students.

Scientific and technical subjects for lectures and visual presentations include raw materials, beamhouse, tanning, post-tanning, drying and finishing, machinery, equipment and related software, leather processing emerging technologies, technical specifications for leather, water consumption management, chemical product consumption management, production management in tanneries, environmental management systems, treatment of industrial liquid, solid and atmospheric waste, quality management and control, energy utilisation management, and occupational health and safety.

Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words and must be submitted by e-mail to abqtic@abqtic.com.br, c/o the Scientific and Technical Committee of the XVII FLAQTIC Congress by November 30, and must be written in either Portuguese or Spanish.
