Decline in Sri Lankan leather and leather goods exports

Sri Lanka exported leather, leather goods and footwear worth $8.75 million from January to March compared with $8.17 million in the 2006 period and $10.8 million in 2005.

According to the country’s Export Development Fund (EDF), exports of leather and leather products fell 38.93% to $3.03 million year-on-year, while footwear exports climbed 80.51% to $5.68 million compared with $5.02 million and $3.15 million, respectively.

Total Sri Lankan exports for the period totalled $1.7 billion, an increase of 13%.
