Consumers still demand leather… especially Britney Spears

22/05/2007

In light of the alternative fabrics now available, leather sometimes struggles to compete with synthetic materials and relies on consumer choice rather than need. However, if pop star Britney Spears' recent reaction on an airplane is anything to go by, it appears that some in the industry may have been unduly concerned about maintaining demand for leather.

According to reports in numerous celebrity publications, Ms Spears demanded to be allowed to leave a plane headed from Los Angeles to Florida minutes before it took off...because it did not have leather seats.

The singer’s diva-like behaviour may have resulted in a one-hour delay for the rest of the passengers on board, but it constitutes a breath of fresh air for those in the leather industry.
