Couroada Tannery to relocate

14/05/2007

Brazilian tannery Couroada Comercial & Representações Ltda., located in Lucélia in São Paulo, has been given 363,000m² of land by the municipal council of Londrina, Paraná, for the construction of a new tannery and offices. The local council paid R$1.7 million ($850,000) for the land and the company is expected to invest a further R$25 million in infrastructure costs.

Couroada produces and exports crust leather to Europe and Asia, mainly for the automotive upholstery sector. The decision to move was based on a number of incentives offered by the Paraná council including the proximity to large cities, the Paranaguá port and the airport.

400 hundred jobs will be created initially with the number of employees expected to rise to 1,000 when the new premises are fully operational at the end of the year.
