US specialty retailer of leather outerwear, accessories and apparel Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has reported a further year-on-year decline in sales for April, impacted by the Easter holidays and unfavourable weather. The company posted sales of $13.3 million for the four weeks ended May 5, down from $17.1 million for the four weeks ended April 29, 2006. Year-to-date sales decreased 22.9% to $57.6 million compared with $74.7 million for the same period last year.

Comparable store sales also decreased 20%, compared with a 7.9% decrease in the equivalent four-week period in 2006, whilst year-to-date comparable store sales decreased 20.8% compared with a decline of 10.8%.
