UNIDO leather panel to meet in Brazil

The Brazilian Association of Footwear Manufacturers (Abicalçados) will host the 16th UNIDO panel for the leather and leather goods industry in Gramado, Brazil, on May 20-23. Discussions will cover the leather and footwear industries as well as environmental awareness and pollution control.

Participants will leather and shoe sector specialists from across the South American region, regular and honorary members of the leather panel, UNIDO representatives and other international organisations.

The topics covered will include 'Notes about hindrances and developments of the leather, shoe and allied trades in connection with Brazil' and 'Review of standards and negotiation in domestic and export markets (manufacturing practices), recommendations to developing countries as to how to apply new strategies and other types of negotiation'.

During the event UNIDO members will also visit the Footwear Industry Union and the Industrial Solid Waste Landfill, in the town of Três Coroas, the Leather Technology Center in Estância Velha, the Brespel tannery and chemical production site of MK Química Ltda., and Calçados Azaléia in Parobé.
