US designer of men's branded casual, fashion, and dress footwear Weyco Group, Inc. has posted record financial results for the quarter ended March 31.

Net earnings improved approximately 7% to $5.7 million, up from $5.3 million in the comparable quarter of the prior year—the highest first quarter earnings ever reported by the company.

Net sales reached a record $63.9 million, up 8%, compared with $59.3 million. Sales in the wholesale division, which also includes licensing revenues, were $56.6 million compared with $52.3 million in 2006. Wholesale sales of the Florsheim and Stacy Adams brands improved 19% and 10%, respectively, while the Nunn Bush brand slipped 4%.

Retail sales were $7.25 million for the quarter, up 3.5% from $7 million, which was attributed to the addition of four new stores.
