Bangladesh seeks Indian investment in the leather sector

30/04/2007

Speaking at a 'Buyer-Seller Meet' at the 'Exhibition of Footwear Components' held in Dhaka, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Mir Nasir Hossain urged Indian companies to make the most of Bangladesh’s Least Developed Country (LDC) status in order to establish leather manufacturing facilities.

Although Bangladesh produces some 86 million square feet of leather every year, exports currently stand at a meagre $257 million. The FBCCI believes that investment from India could add value to Bangladeshi leather and thus boost exports.
