Lack of enthusiasm for BSCIC tender

The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is disappointed by the response to the international tender it issued for the implementation of two modules of common effluent treatment plants including a collection and conveyance system, a solid waste dumping yard, a central laboratory and a common chrome recovery unit.

The government has increased its efforts in completing works on the long-awaited leather industrial estate for the relocation of tanneries to Savar, near Dhaka, at a cost of Tk1.75 billion ($25 million).

President of the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather goods and Footwear Exporters Association Tipu Sultan said, "We have expressed our willingness to establish the effluent treatment plant if the government fails to get a response from the international companies."

The BSCIC has allocated 175 plots to the tanners in the industrial estate, but they are yet to take possession of the plots due to the absence of certain infrastructural facilities.
