Hong Kong supports WTO training programme

25/04/2007

Illustrating its commitment to the World Trade Organization, China and Hong Kong have donated CHF300,000 ($250,000) to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund, taking its total contribution to CHF1.2 million.

The donation will help finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing countries and economies in transition. The aim is to assist in adapting their practices and laws to fit with WTO rules and disciplines, improve the way obligations are met and membership rights are exercised.

Hong Kong’s permanent WTO representative Martin Glass stated: “Hong Kong
is fully committed to the World Trade Organization and supports efforts in assisting less developed members to better participate in the multilateral trading system. Our contribution to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund concretely illustrates our dedication in these respects.”
