Positive response to Pakistani tanners at APLF

02/04/2007

Finished leather exporters reported a positive business mood and a high number of orders following Asia Pacific Fair (APLF) 2007 which closed on March 30; however, it was a different story for leather garment exporters who failed to secure a large volume of deals, claiming that they were unable to compete with Chinese exhibitors on price.

Commenting on the poor results witnessed by garment manufacturers, chairman of the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA), Fawad Ijaz Khan, said that European and American buyers opted for Chinese products as they could purchase similar quality goods at a lower price from Chinese manufacturers.

Producers from Pakistan had two pavilions at the event in Hong Kong, ten garment manufacturers exhibited at the pavilion organised by the PLGMEA in the Fashion Access Section of the fair whilst 48 finished leather producers participated in the pavilion organised by the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) in the Raw Materials Section.
