76% of Chinese exporters expect to raise prices

28/03/2007

According to business-to-business media company Global Sources’ latest Bi-Annual China Supplier Survey, 76% of mainland China manufacturers expect to increase export prices in 2007, compared with 70% in the same survey carried out in the first half of 2006.

This rise is said to be due to increased price competition amongst exporters and the cost of raw materials. Among the suppliers surveyed 35% cited price competition, 34% indicated higher material costs, 16% said design copying/piracy, 11% cited labour shortages, and 5% stated stricter overseas standards.

Those interviewed included manufacturers of leather garments, air conditioners, automotive lights, ceiling light fixtures, eyewear, massagers, pet products and solar panels.
