1,500 attend Footwear Congress

1,500 professionals from the footwear, accessories and garment industry and the retail market participated at the two modules of the 11th Brazilian Footwear Congress held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Retail Module featured issues focusing on the daily activities of footwear stores including costs control, taxes, returns and refunds burden, cost of credit and charge cards, default charges, price, mark-up, complaints, returns and refunds to the consumer.

Keynote speeches were presented by Toninho Espolador and Airton Manoel Dias, directors of Ablac (Brazilian Footwear and Leathergoods Retailers Association) with analyses and discussions presented by directors of companies such as Casas Ajita, Azul Calçados, Renato Calçados and Esponsende/ Paquetá.

The Industry Module focused on the future of the Western footwear industry, during which the Couromoda board of directors invited leaders from the footwear industries in
Brazil, the United States, Europe and Asia to contribute. Speakers provided an overview of the worldwide footwear market, covering topics such as conditions of competitiveness for the footwear industry outside Asia
; the future of 'Made In Italy' goods; manufacturing and logistics; design, quality and raw materials:  Brazilian competitive advantages. The challenges faced by the Brazilian industry to keep the domestic market and pin-point export niches.

Speakers included Rossano Soldini, chairman of Micam and the Association of the Italian Footwear Industry (ANCI); François Browne De Kilmaine, chairman of the French Footwear Association, president of WSFO and chairman of Midec; Olabe Sanchez, president of Bata Malaysia; Márcio Utsch, director and president of Sao Paulo Alpargatas, and Marlin Kohlrausch, chairman of Calçados Bibi.
