Record earnings at BMW Group
Following its earlier report of record sales for 2006, the BMW Group has posted record earnings for the year. Profit before tax increased 25.5% to €4,124 million (2005: €3,287 million). This included a one-off gain of €372 million from the partial settlement of an exchangeable bond on shares in Rolls-Royce plc.
Net profit climbed 28.4% to a new all-time high of €2,874 million (2005: €2,239 million) and group revenues increased 5% to €48,999 million (2005: €46,656 million). Profit before tax for the Automobiles segment increased 1.2% to €3,012 million (2005: €2,976 million) despite adverse currency factors and high raw material prices.
The total number of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles delivered to customers in 2006 increased 3.5% to 1,373,970 units (2005: 1,327,992 units).
Car production volume was also at an all-time high in 2006. In total, 1,366,838 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand cars were manufactured in 2006, 3.3% more than in the 1,323,119 units in the previous year. The BMW brand accounted for 1,179,317 cars, representing an increase of 5.1% over the previous year.
