Wilsons’ sales continue to decline
Having already reported lower fourth quarter and full-year sales earlier this week, specialty leather outerwear, accessories and apparel retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has reported a further decline in sales for the four weeks ended March 3. Sales in February fell to $22.4 million from $29.7 million for the comparable four-week period a year earlier.
Comparable store sales also decreased 24.7%, compared with a 9.3% decline in the four weeks ended February 25, 2006.
Commenting on the results chairman and CEO Michael Searles, stated, “While we continued to struggle from a traffic perspective during the month of February, average purchase size continues to show improvement. In the fourth quarter of 2006 average purchase size grew 3% and in February average purchase size grew by 10% compared to the comparable prior year periods. In 2007 we will focus on building traffic so that we can deliver improved performance with our new product offering."
