The Bangladesh Leather Service Centre (BLSC) is expecting to obtain leather quality testing and certification accreditation from the international laboratory accreditation Cooperation within a year and has already appointed five technical officers with a view to appointing a further nine technical staff members in the near future.

BLSC coordinator Golam Hossain stated, "We are now taking steps to carry out various laboratory-related tasks for physical and chemical testing to build up the capacity required for getting the accreditation."

The ministry of Commerce and the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology have been working together to develop the BLSC as an effective service centre, supported by the International Trade Centre (ITC). International consultant for ITC-Geneva Besudev Bhattacharya is now in Dhaka to oversee the changes being made.
