Bangladesh leather exports perform well
According to the Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladeshi leather footwear exports grew 27.49% between July and December to reach $64.37 million, compared with $50.49 million in the corresponding period in 2005, exceeding the $54.3 million target set for the period by 18.55%.
Although finished leather exports also improved, rising 12.52% from $120.04 million in the 2005 six-month period to $135.07 million, this was 3.07% below the $139.35 million target set for the period. The full year target is $290 million.
The country exported leather bags and purses worth $4.55 million compared with $3.75 million in the prior year period, a 21.33% increase. The full year target for this sector is $8 million. Total leather sector exports during the period stood at $204 million.
