05/03/2007

According to local reports, some 65 tanneries based in the Agra region have been named in high court notices after claims that they are causing pollution and ecological damage in a highly populated area.

The court has issued notices on the region’s commissioner, district magistrate, police and officials of the Agra Development Authority requesting a valid reason as to why the tanneries have not been relocated to a more suitable area with adequate effluent treatment facilities.
