Germany-based leather chemicals company Lanxess held an international leather trend workshop in Santa Croce sull’Arno in Italy on February 12-16. The event was organised by the company’s Competence Centre’s “Italian Innovation” team which was set up in 2006 to develop future leather trends in the furniture upholstery and upper leather sectors.

Participants at the workshop included employees from the company’s Italian Leather Business Unit, representatives from its headquarters in Leverkusen, leather technologists from South America, China, Spain and Portugal and major Italian dealers.

The workshop presented a collection of colours and leather goods for the spring/summer 2008 season developed by Lanxess’ competence centre, laboratory and applications development department in Santa Croce sull’Arno The collection is based on two different trends: Past + experience + present + research = future and Air + light + energy + research = vibration.

In the first trend the look of the future is created by reworking the past to create a new style. Colours include light, pale shades such as beige and stone combined with dark, muted colours ranging from night-blue and violet to agate with metallic or mirror effects.

The second trend is characterised by freshness and lightness, reminiscent of a gentle sea breeze. Clear colours such as sun yellow, apple green, and strawberry red teamed with pale shades such as eggshell and light grey dominate.
