China's leather travelgoods trade increases 27%

The trade volume of China’s luggage and travelgoods sector reached $8.938 billion in 2006, 19.58% higher than in 2005. Total trade in leather luggage and travelgoods increased significantly to reach $1.339 billion, up 27.7% year-on-year. This equated to 14.98% of total trade in the sector.

China’s imports of luggage and travelgoods increased 43.85% to $235 million, whilst exports rose 19.03% to reach $8.7billion. Imports of leather travelgoods hit $67.5626 million, 45.47% higher than in the prior year and accounting for 28.76% of the country’s total travelgoods imports. Exports of leather luggage and travelgoods reached $1.272 billion, a 26.87% increase over the prior year, and accounting for 14.61% of China’s total exports in the sector.
