980 exhibitors at SIMM

Autumn/winter 2007/08 collections were showcased at the 57th Madrid International Fashion Fair (SIMM), which took place on February 16-18 at the Feria de Madrid. 980 exhibitors from 22 countries attended the event, which covered ten halls.

According to figures from the Textile and Clothes Manufacturing Information Centre, turnover from
Spain
’s apparel manufacturing industry totalled €10,950 million last year. Foreign trade was dominated by imports, which totalled €12,220 million. There was significant growth in exports, which reached €7,300 million. According to the Spanish Fur Trade Business Organisation, turnover for the country’s leather and fur sector came to €298.4 million in 2006. Lambskin continues to be the industry’s biggest earner, with sales of nearly €130 million in 2006 and garments made from suede and nubuck were the most popular with a turnover of €104 million. Turnover from the fur sector reached €88.6 million. Mink performed best with sales totalling €54 million, whilst apparel made from fox fur achieved sales of €27 million. Turnover from the rabbit-skin sector was €80.3 million.

The next edition of SIMM will take place from August 31 to September 2 and will feature a new image, layout and new stands.
