According to reports, Indian manufacturer of enzymes and probiotics, Advanced Enzyme Technologies Limited (AETL), has received a process patent for its ‘Eco-Friendly Wet Blue Manufacturing’ which uses enzyme technology to replace lime, sulphide, emulsifiers and salts. The company claims that its new system is not only eco-friendly, but also produces improved grain structure compared with conventional tanning methods.

The patented process, which has taken over two years to develop, is said to be valued at more than $200 million.
