BCLT reopens after three-month strike

The Bangladesh College of Leather Technology (BCLT) is expected to reopen following a three-month strike over the non-payment of staff wages. The Bangladesh Ministry for Education is said to have intervened and promised to resolve the payment issue.

According to reports, teachers and other employees, who have not been paid for the past 19 months, have now called the strike off following a letter to principal of the college, Dr Khan Rezaul Karim, from the ministry confirming that the wage crisis would be resolved.

The government employed 20 teachers, one budget officer and 40 workers from July 1997 to June 2005 as part of a development project, "Reformation, modernisation and structuring of the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology".
